Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to exhibit the process and impact of workplace improvement through the application of WCM (World Class Manufacturing) methodology and Industry 4.0 principles. The first mentioned represents a complete guideline of both technical and managerial standards, adopted in automotive field to reach excellence. The second one is, instead, the outcome of the dramatic technological growth faced in the last decade. A merged approach of the two policies leads to a multitude of strategical solutions, one of which will be defended in the dissertation as it represents the work carried out in the 6 months trainee with FPT Industrial. The project resulted in a consistent improvement of the workplace organization by means of automated dispensing systems for the workstations and a new tool supply system. The thesis is organized in six chapters. In the first chapter Fpt Industrial will be illustrated with a focus on the structure of Turin’s driveline plant. The second chapter describes, instead, World Class Manufacturing, with an introduction on each pillar and on the audit system. The third chapter describes, instead, Industry 4.0 concepts with a brief introduction to Industry 5.0. The fourth chapter dwells on the Workplace Organization pillar describing, so, the steps applied in the machining area and the main concepts behind the pillar. The fifth chapter describes the improvement job performed in the auxiliary material management by means of automatized systems and a tool room building. The final chapter concludes the dissertation with a summary of the results obtained.
