Abstract:

INTRODUCTION

This thesis is mainly discussed about building block design during the urban renewal in China, which takes Dujiangyan as an example. Dujiangyan is a county-level city in Sichuan Province (Sichuan Province is a big labor export province in China), which next to Chengdu. Through integrated into account, this city has more potential. In terms of usage, it needs to consider about the combination of the objects of using zone and the function service; in terms of design, it needs to consider about the urban fabric of the city and the architectural form. And then get a human-scale environment for people to live in.

As for the using objects of a region which is the project of this thesis, are mainly local residents and tourists. The location of the project is next to the old town, the north side is close to the city's main road, the other side of the main road connects the city gate of the old town. The east side is close to a river, on the other side of the river is the new residential complex. The project can be regard as a transition area which not only maintain the life atmosphere of the local residents and daily use, people can meet their basic needs near their home in a short time, but also provide some interesting functions with local characteristics to tourists and get them to know deeply about Dujiangyan. This needs to show the city's characteristic atmosphere. The urban fabric of Dujiangyan is quite obvious, it is divergent shape. In consideration of the project area is a transition area, so we can discuss a new form which combines the local urban fabric.

Dujiangyan had experienced an earthquake in 2008, many buildings in the city were destroyed at that time. So it is best to start with the study of pre-earthquake urban fabric, and analyze the situation of road, density and function before and after earthquake. Meanwhile, we should learn about the traditional architectural form in Sichuan province and Dujiangyan city and the new architectural form. From these two points, we can get a more reasonable urban fabric which has the characteristics of Dujiangyan. But the construction time of the buildings in the project area are different, so they have different form and scale. It is necessary to find an interesting and characteristic architectural form to apply it in this area. Besides, the project is also located next to the river, we should consider the integration of architecture and nature as well and how to use this advantage to provide to citizens and tourists. By combining the local customs, we can regard the project area as a place of relaxing and experiencing local life. And create an appropriate street atmosphere and scale. At the same time, we can get an architectural form and using function that conform to the local characteristics. There are several newly restored buildings in the southwest of the project area, they can be retained as the boundary and corresponded to the buildings on the main street. While as for the new buildings in the project area, they can have new architectural form.

As a transition area close to the old town, we can plan some supporting tourism service functions to attract tourists to stay here. There are many stores, markets and snack bars, we can maintain these original functions and add some other auxiliary functions in order to meet and maintain local residents' lives and attract tourists to experience local life, create another small world, try to take the distribution of basic public facilities in other cities as reference, and combine them with the design, and then find a proper distribution of basic public facilities and try to use them in this case. Through these preliminary summaries, to have a basic understanding of the case design and a simple idea. Some ideas could be changed during the design process, only by constantly thinking and improving, can we better achieve the original design goal, create a good urban atmosphere, attract and retain people.
