Abstract:

The redesign of urban streets provides many different economical, environmental, cultural, and social factors for cities. The thesis aims to bring to the redevelopment of the street and its effect on urban microclimate and air quality in Marconi Street, Turin. The case study of Marconi Street in Turin, located within walking distance between Nizza and Castello del Valentino, will be explored. In urban environments, green spaces have proven to act as ameliorating factors of some climatic features related to heat stress, reducing their effects and providing comfortable outdoor settings for people (Nikolopoulou, Baker, Steemers, 2001). As climate change is playing a significant role in the future, the study of green spaces and material use in this area will look at the impact on the environment. The morphology of the environmental space considers more sustainable changes for living space in this future street. My purpose in undertaking this study is to redesign the street, to investigate the microclimate effect and air quality of this area on the city, and to find a solution following to human centered design point of view. This research carefully reviewed the literature to understand how urban change and interventions affect the identity of the city, and solutions were found by examining selected case studies. In addition, Marconi street is located in the San Salvario district between two heavy traffic flows. For this reason, three significant aspects of the development of this street are researched. These are Environmental Effects, Urban Micro-climate Effects, and Air Quality. The development of the city along with the achievement of cultural, environmental, socio-economic goals and redesigning the area with new solutions and analyzing it with new effects. The development of the city along with its cultural, environmental, socio-economic goals are to be achieved and analyzed together with its new effects by redesigning the area with new solutions. The main purpose of this research is to examine the cooling effects of selected areas in a specific urban form and the cooling effects of the longest day and the hottest day of the year depending on environmental, weather conditions and how the city changes according to urban effects on this microclimate and new data created by the Envi-Met program will be taken.
