Abstract:

Caeli Energie is a French start-up aiming at developing innovative and sustainable cooling for residential application without using a compressor and refrigerants. The technology is derived from the principle of an indirect evaporative cooler and enables to reach the dew point temperature of the air that needs to be cooled. The aim of this master thesis is to assist in conceiving and designing a working prototype of the system by instrumenting it to emphasize and explain the main discrepancies with the theoretical model. First, the context of the project will be explained with a brief overview of both the technology used as well as the company structure. In a second part, the tool development of the heat-sealing system which will be required to build the mock-up will be explained and more especially the automatism process to figure out the appropriate control/command law. After the mock-up building, the design of the acquisition chain which is at the cornerstone of the analysis will be presented with the sensor selection, welding of a breadboard. To facilitate the selection of relevant data during the experimental phase, an Excel interface will be set up to view in real time the values of interest such as COP and efficiencies. Serie of measurements made on the prototype lead to the creation of tools to compare them with the theoretical model, thanks to the help of Octave software. Finally, after the tool development phase, a conclusion will be drawn as the physical phenomena that influence the real behaviour of the system in terms of performances (temperatures, humidities, mass flow rate repartition…). All these conclusions will be developed and enrich the system understanding, therefore making possible to do more relevant CFD simulations.
