Abstract:

An electric field probe, capable of accurately measuring and characterizing the strength of the electromagnetic fields, is designed and prototyped in this work. The E-field probe consists of 57.98 mm resistively tapered dipole elements a low barrier Schottky diode and a transmission line. Three identical dipole configurations have been mutually positioned to reach an isotropic frequency response. The electric field probe has been tested and characterized in an anechoic chamber and in a TEM and GTEM cell. The E-field probe is correctly working in two different bands; the first band is operating from 100 kHz up to 30 MHz and the second band ranges from 700 MHz up to 3.5 GHz. The overall deviation in isotropic response with respect to the electric field probe major axis is +/- 0.35 dB. The frequency response flatness of the probe is within +/- 2.5 dB. Both the theoretical and developmental aspects of this electric field sensor are discussed in this work.
