Abstract:

The electric mobility is growing year by year becoming the alternative to the traditional transport. In this window, also the major automotive companies of luxury cars, as Rimac Automobili, are moving to conquer this new market share. To ensure the best performance, the C_Two battery pack has to provide the right power to powertrain components that have to work within the operational temperatures without exceeding the survival limits. So it's necessary to guarantee the right mass flow through the front-compartment to allow the maximum available heat transfer. To achieve this purpose, it has been implemented a new Methodology with AcuSolve software because of the availability of the code by Rimac Automibili. The interesting peculiarity is dictated by the fact that the code is based on Finite Element Method against most of CFD codes based on Finite Volume Method. The pre-processing operations involve the use of BETA CAE ANSA and HyperMesh software because it's part of the same solver Suite, Altair. The physical model is characterized by the RANS equations, that represent the right compromise between accuracy and computational cost, and the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model due to to the reached and developed robustness in AcuSolve code. Although the simulation's results led to the compartment optimization, Altair Suite highlighted limits in the handling of the model and in the time used to elaborate any single operation making itself user friendly; moreover, the computational time and CPU's resources is higher than the competitors.
