Abstract:

The thesis aims to illustrate the work done within Robin Studio, a company that works in the multimedia production field. In particular, the collaboration carried out with the company focuses on the serial animation project "Reverie Dawnfall". The given task was to study and implement a workflow for cloth and hair simulations with the ultimate goal of producing a one minute teaser trailer for the series. The thesis starts by giving an introduction to the project, describing the pre-production phases, concentrating on references and summarizing the objectives and requirements given by the company. A description and explanation of the two main software tools Blender and Marvelous Designer follows with particular attention aimed at the functionalities that they offer for simulating cloth and hair. Subsequently, the proposed and implemented solutions for tackling the simulation problem are described and compared. Among these, the thesis focus primarily on fabric simulations carried out with the "Marvelous Designer" software and on the design and development of the "CHair" plugin for Blender. The plugin automates the steps that are required to breathe life into the hair of the virtual characters and can be used for future work on the project allowing for time to be saved. Finally, the completed product is looked at and comments are made as to where improvements are still possible or whether the work is satisfactory.
