The Startup Studio: a new generation of incubation model?

Rel. Paolo Landoni. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Ingegneria Gestionale, 2020

Abstract:

"Startup studio: are they a new incubation model?" A general model for the incubation phenomenon is broadly defined, by an economic vocabulary definition, as the way in which an incubation entity provides support to startups, new ventures in early stage phase, to increase the probability of survival of these companies and accelerate their development; in other words, it is the mechanism used by the organizations to start-up companies, create and capture their value. This Master thesis designs a research about an incubation entity called “Startup Studio”, to understand if it is a real new approach to the business innovation world and entrepreneurial sector or whether it is only a rebranding of already existing business development structures such as incubators and accelerators or, moreover, if they are investors like Business Angels or Venture Capital Companies. The research has been developed with three streams: the first one it has been a global literature review about each entity cited above, the second one a secondary research with a final Database development with all the Startup Studios found in activity worldwide and, eventually, a validation of all the theoretical theories through empirical results and descriptive statistics extracted with the Database and validated using direct interviews with Studio’s managers contacted specifically to participate within this thesis workflow. In conclusion, it has been assessed if the primary hypothesis of Startup Studio’s definition and main features it has been formulated correctly or if this study highlighted aspects not taken under consideration in the first place.
