Abstract:

Spatial analysis in architecture involves with space and function distribution in a building and space syntax regards all methods and theories to recognize and demonstrate the composition of spaces considering their relationship with access possibilities and with particular usage of these spaces. Spatial analysis generally is applied in the earlier stage of architectural construction and rarely has any connection with other stages and phase of construction namely structure and infrastructure while they are connected indeed. In addition, real features of the space cannot be perceived by graphs and diagrams and it requires a new technique to demonstrate the actual space relations and pedestrian flow in the space. In this research, after illustration of parameters dedicated to each space, BIM was applied to achieve more intelligent space syntax as well as attaching this analysis with other stages in the building. While Virtual Reality is used to demonstrate current, connection and relationship of spaces. The analysis has resulted in the depth map and function map of floor plans. According to these maps, it is possible to compare the distribution of spaces regarding the particular activities contained by them. While by Virtual Reality, the perceptual quality of this distribution can be analyzed.
