Abstract
The increasing penetration of distributed renewable energy resources is transforming traditional electricity systems into decentralized and prosumer-oriented environments. In this context, Energy Communities and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) energy trading mechanisms have emerged as promising solutions to improve local energy utilization, reduce dependence on centralized infrastructures, and provide economic benefits to participants. At the same time, the decentralized nature of these systems introduces challenges related to trust, transparency, market coordination, and cybersecurity. This thesis presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of a blockchain-based framework for local energy trading within an Energy Community. The proposed architecture integrates smart meters, forecasting mechanisms, blockchain smart contracts, and market-clearing algorithms into a unified simulation environment developed using the Mosaik co-simulation framework.
Residential prosumers equipped with photovoltaic generation systems participate in both Day-Ahead and Real-Time energy markets, enabling the study of forecasting uncertainty and market dynamics under realistic operating conditions
