Abstract
The ROVs designed and built by the PoliTOcean student team use motors controlled by ESCs (Electronic Speed Controllers) that are limited to sending driving commands without returning any operational status data, making it impossible to verify if the motors are behaving as expected. The aim of this thesis is the hardware and software design of an ESC capable of providing continuous, bidirectional feedback, transmitting the system status to a master unit in real time, thereby replacing the ESC currently in use. The board is based on the STSPIN32F0A System-in-Package manufactured by STMicroelectronics. It is a component that integrates an STM32F031C6 microcontroller and the gate drivers required to drive a three-phase inverter consisting of six N-channel MOSFETs.
The system is developed to control the T200 thruster, a sensorless motor produced by BlueRobotics, using control logic based on trapezoidal commutation, also known as six-step, which utilizes Back-EMF zero-crossing detection to estimate the rotor position
