Abstract
In today's competitive environment, manufacturing companies are challenged to continuously improve their performance by reducing waste, lead times, and defects. In this context, Lean Manufacturing has become one of the most widely used approaches for improving production systems, thanks to its focus on value creation, continuous flow, active involvement of the operators and continuous improvement. This thesis describes a Lean Manufacturing project developed within a company operating in the luxury knitwear sector. The study was carried out in the packaging department, specifically in the garment assembly production process. The organizational flow was traditionally structured with functional macro-areas and batch-based operations. This type of configuration concealed all the negative aspects leading to long lead times, limited process visibility, difficulty in managing production priorities, and very late identification of quality issues.
The main goal of this thesis was to redesign the production flow through the introduction of a production line based on Lean fundamental principles
