Abstract:

Businesses are constantly seeking new ways to enhance efficiency and make smarter decisions. This thesis explores how business intelligence can help organizations optimize their processes by turning raw data into meaningful insights. The first part of the research examines the evolution of business intelligence, from early database management systems to more advanced decision support systems and online analytical processing. It also highlights the growing impact of big data, showing how companies can leverage vast amounts of information to enhance strategic decision-making. A key focus of the thesis is the BOARD platform, an enterprise performance management tool that integrates data analysis, reporting, and visualization. The study explores its architecture, emphasizing how multidimensional data models and interactive dashboards can provide real-time insights to decision-makers. The research is based on a real-world case study conducted with Bios Management S.r.l., a consulting firm specializing in business process optimization through business intelligence solutions. The project aimed to tackle common corporate challenges such as data fragmentation, slow reporting processes, and limited integration between different information systems like ERP, CRM, and Excel. By implementing a custom reporting model within BOARD, the company was able to streamline operations, improve data accessibility, and enhance strategic decision-making. The results demonstrate the practical benefits of business intelligence, including faster reporting cycles, improved performance monitoring, and more effective management decisions. The thesis concludes with a critical analysis of the project’s impact and potential future developments in business intelligence and data-driven decision-making.
