The aim of our project for this masterplan is to “answer” to the many questions and exigencies expressed by the municipality of Zhaoqing, thus trying to approach the project through a deeper analysis of the context of the area, in order to preserve and empower the existing local tissues with some typologies of settlements according to local rural tradition, in contrast with the purposes of de-individualization and deletion of the values of the area. Our proposal tries to pay attention to the old small tissue of the villages, to the water system , to the agricultural area with its rhythm and habits of rural life to preserve and protect.

Thin infrastructural elements reconnect the various stripes of the area, making a functional support to the different activities, designed according to the existing building and tissues: a more urban and denser area in the upper part of the site which keeps the relations with the old neighbourhoods, evoking the community lifestyle of the old Hakka villages; a linear natural park area between the new Hakkas and the old neighbourhoods, a new ship canal that gives value the old villages, and a settlements that connects agriculture and tourism, and the refurbishment of the riverfront facing the Xi Xian river.
