Abstract: |
This paper presents a novel IoT device designed to dynamically regulate the oxygen flow based on the Sp02 level of the patient. The device uses a combination of hardware, which include: “flow valve, stepper motor, motor driver, magnetic encoder, OLED screen and an oximeter” and software ranging from communication protocols to algorithms. The algorithms were tuned and perfected through multiple set of tests. We evaluated the performance of the device using two main KPIs: MSE: (Median Squared Error) of the values outside the expected range. Oxygen flow changes. The results showed that the device was able to regulate the oxygen flow to the patient and maintain its saturation within the given boundaries. The device also outperforms the current methods of regulation which requires human intervention. This device has the potential to revolutionize the way oxygen therapy is administered, decreasing nurses and doctor intervention to regulate the flow and increase the patient well-being by never leaving them unattended. A side benefit of the device is that by giving the correct amount of oxygen at any given moment there is a decrease in the use of oxygen, in those cases where a higher flow rate is used to prevent drops. Overall the papers presents the thoughts behind the hardware and software chosen to develop this IoT devices, how the problem of the regulation was managed and evaluated, and an overview of the main technologies and protocols needed for its development. Which hopefully highlights the potential for further research and development in this area. |
