Abstract:

Bibliographic research on low inertia power systems and implementation of virtual inertia on power grids. Research on real-time simulation and power-hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) with a presentation of applications in the field of virtual inertia. Study of the effects of virtual inertia on microgrids with prevalent renewable resources. Dynamic modelling in Simulink for simulating a green microgrid supplied by an hydro power plant and a DC source (photovoltaic plant + battery). Implementation of a control algorithm for using the DC source’s power converter as a virtual synchronous generator (VSG), introducing virtual inertia in the microgrid. Analysis of simulation results and extension of the dynamic modelling to the RT-LAB platform, for further studies for real-time and PHIL applications.
