Abstract:

Aerofoils’ choice: first by constructing the characteristic curves of each one using macros in Java and plotting on Matlab, subsequently optimizing the 2D configuration through Heeds MDO. Front wing: Optimization of the 3D configuration of the aerofoils, end-plates and strakes in order to generate the maximum downforce compatible with the car's balance, with the wake's size produced by the front wheels and the front wing itself, with the air flow directed towards the undertray of the car. Using Catia V5 (CAD) and Star CCM+ (CFD). Construction, whole front wing’s production process: CAD files for the moulds and for the rohacell core, raw preparation for milling, treatment of milled moulds, carbon fiber lamination process, carbon fiber cure, finishing of the piece, assembly on the vehicle.
