Abstract:

This thesis explores the integration of green walls in interior spaces, addressing their historical, ecological, and practical dimensions. It traces the evolution of green walls from their origins to current applications and offers a comprehensive definition that encompasses their benefits and limitations. The discourse begins with an exploration of the past by presenting the history and evolution of green walls, followed by a detailed definition that encapsulates their function and significance. The benefits of green walls are then discussed to emphasize their positive impact on environmental quality and human well-being. In counterpoint, the limitations of green walls are addressed to highlight the challenges inherent in their implementation. To ensure effective integration, specific system requirements for structural support and maintenance needs are outlined. A critical analysis is provided regarding plant type selection and planting system types for optimal composition. The thesis further delves into exploring the advantages and disadvantages of green walls while offering practical insights for contemporary design. Different systems are categorized based on various approaches making evident corresponding attributes. Lastly it introduces a novel well-being framework tailored to different Green Wall typologies highlighting its connection between Green Walls' effects on occupant health serving as conduit understanding well-being impacts.
