Abstract:

This work presents the development of a hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) test bench that can be leveraged to validate an e-bike anti-lock braking system (ABS) for multiple bicycle geometry, loading and test scenarios. The approach consists of interfacing a virtual bike simulation model running on a real-time target machine with the physical ABS hardware under test. This setup allows the test engineer to first test and evaluate the ABS behaviour in a safe place, before starting tests on the track. This thesis describes the derivation of a six-degrees-of-freedom (dof) equation-based model representing the longitudinal in-plane dynamics of an e-bike. The simulation model is experimentally validated against measurements conducted on an instrumented test bike. The test apparatus used and the comparison of simulation results with measurement are presented. The features of the developed HIL test bench are presented. Its applicability to an ABS validation process is illustrated by assessing the braking performance of an ABS under test on a crossover-type bike.
