Abstract:

The world of 2D materials offers the possibility to discover and exploit new properties and performances that are not present in bulk materials. However, obtaining 2D materials is not easy because the thermal and chemical stability is not the same as the one of the bulk material. In van der Waals materials, the in-plane stability is given by strong covalent bonds, while the interaction between the different stacked layers is due to Van der Waals attraction that is weaker than the covalent interaction. Create heterostructures with exfoliated van der Waals materials allows to achieve new and interesting properties. The hot pick-up technique is developed for the fabrication of the heterostructures.
