Where craft shapes the city: the intangible heritage of the Barniz de Pasto technique and its influence on architectural identity in the city of Pasto, Colombia

This thesis consists of the architectural design of a cultural center in the city of Pasto, Colombia, dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the traditional artisanal technique known as "barniz de pasto." The study addresses the physical and symbolic deterioration of both the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Pasto. A significant issue identified is the spatial deficit for the promotion and stimulation of creative environments essential to sustaining this artisanal tradition. The primary objective is to architecturally design a facility that protects the artisanal barniz technique through the spatial activation of creative scenarios, which are to be integrated with the historic center of Pasto. The project will focus on the restoration and revitalization of Calle del Colorado as a foundational element for this cultural intervention. This initiative intends to contribute substantially to the preservation and revitalization of the city's cultural identity.
