Abstract:

This thesis presents the design, parameterization, and simulation of a double wishbone suspension system for a hybrid electric urban concept vehicle. Its primary objective is to preserve the Team’s know-how while defining a methodological framework for suspension design aimed at maximizing vehicle efficiency, dynamic performance, and energy utilization. The work focuses on improving cornering capabilities, managing the load transfer, while keeping a simple system solution. A parametric approach was adopted to identify the hardpoints of the suspension and its packing then analysed cinematic behaviour, providing insights into optimal geometry and performance under various conditions. The results validate the proposed methodologies and highlight the potential benefits of rigorous, model-based design enhancing the adaptability of the suspension system to the vehicle chassis that is still under evaluation like the mechanical packaging. Overall, this research establishes a foundation for the systematic development of high-performance suspension systems, offering both practical guidance for the Team and a basis for future experimental validation and refinement.
