Abstract:	LO STUDIO DELL’ASSOCIAZIONISMO DEI TECNICI E DEI PROGETTISTI PER LA STORIA DELL’ARCHITETTURA Il lavoro di ricerca illustrato nella mia tesi ha lo scopo di inquadrare e di descrivere in maniera esauriente e approfondita un fenomeno sfaccettato e complesso, quello dell’associazionismo, relativo ai settori dell’architettura e dell’ingegneria. Si tratta di una tematica che, figlia dell’età illuminista, investe e coinvolge nell’Ottocento tutta l’Europa e anche gran parte del territorio coloniale2, senza tralasciare aree come gli Stati Uniti e il Giappone.3 Non è un caso che sia proprio il XIX secolo la culla delle società culturali e tecniche: si tratta infatti della conseguenza della rivoluzione iniziata il secolo precedente, che porta gli studiosi e i professionisti a una vita di relazione fatta di congressi, esposizioni, concorsi e corrispondenza tra le maggiori città europee. Attraverso questa rete di comunicazioni si afferma ovunque il positivismo, legato al capitalismo industriale e caratterizzato dalla fiducia nelle innovazioni tecnologiche, quali l’uso delle macchine a vapore, l’elettricità e la ferrovia. In questo clima di ottimismo si diffondono, a partire da Londra, le società di tipo tecnico, che costituiscono un tassello importante per la circolazione delle idee e che in Italia sono tuttavia un tema poco studiato, a differenza di quelle di tipo culturale, a proposito delle quali esiste una bibliografia più corposa e approfondita.
