IoT-Edge-Cloud Continuum in Connected Vehicles: the ICOS Project.
Rel. Guido Albertengo. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Automotive Engineering (Ingegneria Dell'Autoveicolo), 2024
Abstract: |
The IoT2Cloud Operating System (ICOS) project represents a significant advancement in the development of meta-operating systems for managing the IoT-Edge-Cloud Continuum. This continuum enables efficient data processing by distributing tasks between IoT devices, edge computing nodes, and cloud servers. The ICOS project addresses key challenges such as latency, resource allocation, scalability, and security in real-time data environments. A primary use case explored in this thesis is the In-Car Advanced Infotainment and Multimedia Management System (IAIMM), which leverages ICOS technologies to deliver a seamless, real-time multimedia experience for passengers in connected vehicles. IAIMM integrates real-time multimedia services, such as interactive maps and tourism-related content, while managing the complex demands of a mobile environment with fluctuating network connectivity. The system achieves this through intelligent task offloading between edge nodes and the cloud, ensuring low-latency service delivery even in areas with weak connectivity. |
