Abstract:

Gears are components that play a fundamental role in defining the performance, durability and reliability of a system under various operation conditions. This thesis aims to explore the performance of gears manufactured through additive manufacturing, followed by an induction hardening process. The experimental gears will undergo to a testing campaign, used to determine their behavior against pitting and tooth root fracture: more precisely this is done using the pulsator test rig, for tooth root bending, and the FZG-back-to-back test rig, for pitting evaluation.\\ The experimental results will then be post-processed, by considering the ISO 6336, to evaluate important values such as the permissible stresses for both tooth root fracture and pitting, to be able to justify the combination of additive manufacturing and induction hardening.
