Abstract:

This master thesis project deals with the topic of the Event Data Recorder (EDR) for automotive applications. This device has been established as a mandatory safety equipment by the European Commission in 2022, and starting from 2024 all new vehicles must be manufactured in accordance with these new safety regulations. More in detail, the project's aim was to perform the whole process of extraction and analysis of the EDR data, in order to underline the potential of this new device for the purpose of crash dynamics reconstruction. So, a real car accident case was taken into account, analyzing all the electronic diagnostic parameters extracted from the vehicle, including EDR data, in order to finally estimate the trajectory followed by the vehicle during the crash event.
