Abstract:

The thesis is focused around Public Private Partnerships in Italy and countries from Western Europe. Throughout the research work, the business case of a series of PPP cases were analyzed, and through the use of linear regression statistical method, the effect of various potential factors that can influence the risk model of project Concession Periods were identified. The results of this work culminated in two papers, the first already being published in the Buildings Journal (MDPI), while the second one as of this moment has the results of its analysis ready and is in the initial drafting stage. Below is the summary of the results of these two papers: Paper I: "Driving Factors of Concession Period in Healthcare Public Private Partnerships" For this paper, 28 Italian healthcare cases were analyzed, totaling 3.2 Billion euros. It was found that the following variables are significant that influence the risk model of the concession period: 1. Investment Size (positive relation) 2. Public Share (negative relation) 3. Year of contract award (negative relation) 4. No of partners in the SPV (positive relation) 5. Catchment population (positive relation) Paper II: For this paper, 110 social PPPs in Western European countries were analyzed, totaling 10.97 billion euros. It was found that the following variables are significant variables that influence the risk model of the concession period: 1. Direct public contribution (negative relation) 2. Project Size (positive relation) 3. Number of partners in the SPV (positive relation) 4. Year of contract award (positive relation) 5. Construction period (positive relation) 6. GDP per capita (positive relation) Finally, the results of the papers are gathered together to form the backbone of the thesis article.
