Abstract:

??In an era marked by unprecedented connectivity and globalization, the concept of social impact transcends traditional boundaries, resonating across diverse landscapes and communities. While universal ideals underpin the discourse on social impact, its true essence lies in the nuanced interplay between global aspirations and the distinctive fabric of local realities. This thesis aims to unravel the intricate dynamics between the impact of local realities on the burgeoning young population and the evolving cultural tapestry within these communities. ??The global youth demographic represents a dynamic force that is both shaping and being shaped by local contexts. As young people navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by their cultural surroundings, the impact of local realities becomes a pivotal factor in influencing their aspirations, identities, and overall well-being. The complexities inherent in the intersection of local realities and youth culture necessitate a tailored approach that goes beyond generalized frameworks. Cultural expressions, social norms, and economic disparities play a profound role in influencing the experiences of the young population. ??This research takes a focused lens on the city of Torino, Italy, to delve into the specificities of how local realities impact the youth demographic and shape cultural dynamics. Within this exploration, a key case study is Imbarchino, a local bar, event space, and community hub and their online community radio RBL. By examining the role of Imbarchino within the context of Torino, the aim is to uncover how this specific community space contributes to shaping the experiences, connections, and cultural expressions of the city’s young residents. Through a synthesis of theoretical perspectives, empirical studies, and cultural analyses centered on Imbarchino, this thesis seeks to contribute, through multiple digital and physical interventions, to a more effective framework for social impact that empowers young populations, honors cultural diversity, and fosters inclusive development in this specific urban setting.
