Abstract:

This thesis recounts an internship at Infineon Technologies within the Power Supply and Sensors (PSS) department, with a primary focus on Analog Power IC Design, particularly in the context of AC-DC flyback topology. The internship commenced with an intensive training program encompassing fundamental analog block design principles, including topics such as bandgap reference and operational amplifiers (OpAmps). Basic analog circuit block, such as the bandgap current reference and a two-stage operational transconductance amplifier (OTA), were developed during this training period, with simulation results detailed in Annex. The core of this thesis comprises two primary sections, each delving into crucial components within the primary IC of the AC-DC Flyback Converter: the Current Sensing Block and the Gate Driver Block. These sections extend their analysis to include circuit studies and simulation discussions, offering comprehensive insights into the functions of these components. The Current Sensing Block section outlines its significance in the flyback topology, emphasizing its role in monitoring and managing current flow. It dissects the block's architecture, explaining the functions of components like resistors, amplifiers, and sensing mechanisms. Simulation discussions critically assess the block's performance under diverse conditions, showcasing its effectiveness in various scenarios. Similarly, the section dedicated to the Gate Driver Block introduces its importance in the Flyback Converter and explores its internal workings through circuit studies. Simulation discussions form a central part of this segment, enabling an evaluation of the block's efficiency, speed, and proficiency in handling power switches under varying conditions. In summary, this thesis highlights the knowledge gained during the internship, particularly in the context of gate drivers and current sensing within Analog Power IC Design. These comprehensive explorations underscore the fusion of theoretical understanding and practical implementation in the dynamic realm of power electronics.
