Abstract:

The thesis is a design study of a Smoke and Heat Exhaust Ventilation System (SHEVS). Several key standards are cited and used in the design of the SHEVS plant. A building model is proposed to show a linear design procedure. All design phases are discussed, shown and applied on the considered building model. A study on the interaction of the SHEVS system and the sprinkler system is conducted through a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, in order to understand if any corrective action on the activation of the sprinkler system are needed. In particular, the influence of the ventilation of the SHEVS plant on the droplets sprayed in case of fire is studied. Models build with different tools (Matlab & Ansys-Fluent) are compared to simulate the droplet’s fall.
