Abstract:

This work is based on the integration of BIM (Building Information Modeling), IoT (Internet of Things) and Semantic Web technologies, applied to indoor automation for telemedicine. Originally the World Wide Web was designed to exchange a wide range of information, thinking mainly of human usage and interpretation, but with the coming of Internet of Things and automatic data processing, cooperation with machines becomes strongly necessary. In the last few years has been proposed a new concept of actual Web, the so called Semantic Web. It was conceived for exchange of data and metadata in standard formats, interpretable by both computers and human beings. Furthermore these technologies allow a clear and standardized mechanism to organize semantic concepts. For these reasons, this work focuses mainly on Semantic Web approach, in particular with the development of an ontology: a set of representational primitives (classes, properties, relationships) thanks to which it is possible to model a domain of knowledge. It was designed for integration of concepts coming from different domains of interest, including mainly: smart devices, patient home, hospital staff, medical records and building 3D model. Essential information of IoT devices are stored inside the ontology, as well as properties related to the building in which they are located, coming from BIM model. Also, people with different roles (patients, doctors, nursing staff...) are recorded inside ontology to keep track of organization inside hospitals. The developed ontology is used inside an IoT infrastructure, accessible as a RESTful microservice and linked to other microservices, in order to provide a solution that is scalable and able to provide properly data and metadata coming from different areas.
