Abstract: |
With the fast growth of Chinese cities and the gradual emergence of urban problems, it is inevitable for China to adopt urban regeneration strategies that suit the characteristics of Chinese cities. China's urban development has moved past the period of rapid development, and the city is facing very complex development needs. Urban regeneration needs to be considered from a physical aspect and a socio-humanistic and sustainable development perspective. In response to the current condition in China, the Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has proposed the concept of "urban repair," which does not yet have a precise definition but is a new concept that combines the experience and theoretical achievements of urban development around the world with Chinese characteristics. The concept of "urban repair" provides a concrete idea for urban regeneration in China, oriented towards "problems" and "goals." In terms of value orientation, it has changed from focusing on "economic benefits" to "social and humanistic" and "ecological environment." The approach to regeneration has changed from the "big demolition and construction" approach to the "gradual" approach. In terms of the objectives of regeneration, it has changed from a "top-down" approach, in which the government and developers are mainly responsible for the performance of government officials and the interests of developers, to one in which residents, government, and developers work together to achieve a win-win situation. The idea of "urban repair" is aimed at the decay of the physical space, the fracture of the historical heritage, the chaotic organization of traffic, and the absence of green areas in the city. The concept of "urban repair" requires specific strategies for specific problems, focusing on optimizing the city's spatial structure and functional patterns and building a three-dimensional public transport system—social repair. From the perspective of architectural typology and urban morphology, historical buildings of different classes should be protected or renovated. Urban green areas should be integrated with public space to enhance contact with the natural environment in the daily activities of residents and citizens. The highest purpose is to achieve harmony between the natural and artificial environments. |
