By reflecting on the ancient history of Iran, it is easy to see the interaction between people in the urban space of the periodic bazaar and the traditional bazaar which their role has changed due to modernity. A bazaar was not just a place to trade, it was a place for social, political, cultural, and religious activities. Historically bazaars are the centers of the identity of a city which had an effective role in its formation and structure. During the time, the interventions were done for the organisation of streets, pedestrian ways, and central areas texture of cities which led to, neglecting the historical textures like a bazaar. Despite the fact of loss of its role, the traditional bazaar is still one of the unique elements the in organisation of urban space in Iran and has a special place in people’s culture. In this study Mashhad’s Bazaar is considered, which is one of the ancient bazaars of Iran in Mashhad city, one of the religious cities, of Iran, and o for Muslims. The purpose of this study to redefine the historical identity of this bazaar in Mashhad, improvement of functional quality, organisation of traffic situation, and reconnect this bazaar with the flow of life of the residents of the area to meet the expected needs of urban space.
