Abstract:

The target of this thesis work is to provide a fast and realistic simulation tool able to evaluate and compare different set up of a motorcycle during race weekend and the target area on which the vehicle development has to focus. It represents the integration of the digital tools developed along the previous race seasons inside the 2WheelsPolito team. The experience gained suggested that simulation and calculation of the ideal trajectory with a perfect ride behavior and theoretical vehicle set up, often will not bring advantages and will be impossible to apply it on a real rider and bike. Instead the tool presented, relying on a real Log, will help the team to maximize the performance, customizing the analysis and tailoring the results on each rider peculiarity. According to principle above, the simulation is focused only on set up levers that is proper of the bike (Powertrain, Aerodynamics, Weight distribution and Tyres). During the race weekend maximizing the engine performance across all the lap: defining the best gear ratio, shift point and engine usage on each track of the championship. While during the pre-season and development phase, predicting the impact of a single improvement and related cost-benefits, will help the team to be more effective in the technical choices. The flexibility and reliability of the tool, moreover, guarantees the support for all the categories (CIV Moto3, CIV Premoto3 and MotoStudent) in which the team is actually involved.
