Abstract:

Agronomic technologies to farm soilless crops in artificial environments. The extension of crops to produce food for humanity - constantly increasing - contributes to environmental pollution, and affects climate stability. Climate changes, in turn, influence farming operations in a negative spiral. Thanks, however, to new agronomic technologies, vegetables, and other types of plantations at the basis of human nutrition can now be produced soilless, within artificial environments that represent the new frontier for the agriculture of the future. The ability to develop this new type of crops, however, requires the development of new technologies to constantly monitor the status of production and automate the various irrigation, fertilization, and phytosanitary treatment processes in a precise and controlled manner. The thesis will address these topics in a holistic perspective and will focus in more detail on the development of the technological tools required.
