Re-design of a production line for tap manufacturing toward energy efficiency improvement: a feasibility study.

Rel. Paolo Claudio Priarone. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Ingegneria Gestionale (Engineering And Management), 2022

Abstract:

This thesis arises from a feasibility study of a new line for U.F.S. S.r.l. (Utensili Filettatori Sparone) that is committed to achieving two goals: •??allow an increase in production without having the need to expand the production site. •??lowering environmental impact, thus aligning itself with the efforts made with the objective of cleaner production. The thesis is divided into five sections as follows: The first section consists of the introduction of the context in which the study is set. The second section (ch.1-3) presents the rationale for the study, the study itself, and the criticalities addressed, i.e., the current state of the production line and parameters that will be taken into account when analyzing the possible improvement. The third section (ch.4 to 5) analyzes different possible solutions to the problem. Two different manufacturing layouts have been proposed and subjected to an economic and environmental evaluation. The fourth section (ch.6) compares the proposed solutions, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the different layouts. The fifth section (ch.7) presents the conclusions of the study and indicates the best path to follow for the company.
