Abstract:

The purpose of this thesis is to propose an optimization and automation of a methodology used by the RG Test Center of the FCA group (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) in Turin. This Test Center is a state-of-the-art center in the quality control of FCA group vehicles and, for a long time, it has manually managed all the various types of tests that are carried out on the various vehicles (cars, vans, ...). Over time, these operations had become expensive both in terms of time spent managing and planning the various tests, and in terms of the overall organization of the center. With the arrival of the first electric vehicles, in addition to the classic tests to be planned, it was also necessary to manage a part dedicated to recharging the cars. In this case, a manual management and planning was no longer able to guarantee a suitable result for the work to be done because, this, further complicated the complex planning by the engineers. This event was the trigger that led the managers of the Test Center to consider the idea of developing a software that would simplify and optimize all the various processes in the best possible way, by limiting resources and leading to a considerable saving of time. The solution proposed and described in this thesis was to innovate the technologies used up to that moment in the Test Center. I have been in charge of developing a web-based application that would optimize and automate the management of the entire center, both from the point of view of vehicle management, which meant for instance planning tests, handling the vehicles' life cycle, creating statistics and consumption metrics, both from the point of view of personnel management, such as for example shifting of drivers, management of holidays and illnesses, personal skills, and so many other features. The use of this system allowed to obtain a huge reduction in the workload of all employees and engineers. Moreover, in addition to a saving in terms of time, this software led also to a great saving at economic level.
