Abstract:

The Supply Chain Management systems are widespread in all kind of industry to organize the flux into each step of the value chain. The digitalization and the rapid evolution of the SCM have forced the enterprises to adapt their architectures and their physical structures to follow the continuous updating of these systems. The aim of this work is the analysis of the implementation of a new warehouse management system (SAP EWM) in an industrial reality: the Volkswagen Spare Parts Distribution Center in Verona. The focus of the project, based on my internship experience in Volkswagen Group Italia, is on the fulfillment of the Preparation Phase of the whole program that will end with the go live and the stabilization of EWM. During the mentioned stage, the actual appearance of the warehouse, in terms of locations and flux, is defined and, then, is optimized. The need of a first mapping of the Center is due to the great amount of changes brought in the past, thanks to a management system which allowed more flexibility. In the second step, the aim is the standardization of the locations and understanding of the new trends in terms of storage needs to favor the installation of EWM. Some solutions, such as the creation of a new type of racking systems and the re-organization of storage area for voluminous articles, which are considered in the context of EWM Project to create a more functional and efficient warehouse, are presented and studied.
